I have been taking a look at some remarkable fly fishing holidays and have found out that they make for tremendous adventure holidays. Fly fishing travel is extremely popular and takes you to many great destinations.

This is specialized overseas adventure travel for expert anglers, however, if you aren't so skilled or maybe you fancy starting and taking lessons, these are vacations suitable for you also.

But First What Exactly Is Fly Fishing?

In fly-fishing, the fly which is used to lure the fish is man-made and floats on the water. Casting it into a river at the end of a fly fishing rod, reel, and weighted line calls for ability, practice, and patience.

Fly-fishing uses methods that are different to other kinds of fishing. The real difference is that the weight of the line carries the fly to the target, not the weight at the end of the line. In essence you cast the fishing line, not the lure.

Floating on top, the dry flies represent a fly landing on, or perhaps leaving the water. Other flies are partly or totally submerged. Flies are hand made by the angler, of threads, furs, as well as feathers tied to a hook.

To keep a fly in place, an angler has to be good at tying knots with names like 'improved clinch knot', 'arbor knot', and 'albright knot'. These all must be mastered to become classed as an accomplished fly angler.

Fly-fishing can be done in fresh or salt water and the temperature decides what fish you'll catch. Saltwater fly fishing is done with heavier tackle because the fish are bigger. The flies will represent crabs and shrimp not dragonflies, ants or mayfly.

The techniques used for this sort of fly fishing take time to perfect and ocean fish are often more difficult to catch. It is usually done from boats and all the tackle and equipment is corrosion free. Salt water fishing is very, very exciting.

Fly-fishing is frequently associated with salmon and trout, but any fish may be targeted so long as the fly is made to resemble the food the fish eats.

There are numerous wonderful fly fishing holidays and we can only show one of them in this article. Fly fishing travel is pretty new however the company we use at the adventure travel shop is very experienced and you may book with confidence.

The Kamchatka peninsula is in the Far East of Russia and about the size of California. It's opposite Alaska and it has a similar climate and landscape. The main difference is that it has a much smaller population, only about 375,000, and is more pristine.

You are taken to your camping site by chopper and will find yourself in a wilderness of remarkable beauty. There are 29 active volcanoes along the coastline, and you will see and hear a number of them from the angling spots.

The fish here are special, and of exceptional size. You'll find huge rainbow trout, and most of the world's Pacific salmon arrive here to spawn. There is also one called the khundza, an Asian char that grows up to three feet plus.

You'll camp, but in tents or cabins with stoves and electrical power and will have a place to dry wet clothes. There are showers, flush toilets, and a comfortable mess. Food is excellent with lots of fresh fruit, cheese salmon, caviar, and vodka. Evenings can be as much fun as the daytime fishing.

For partners who are not fishing it is a stress-free and pleasurable area to spend a holiday because of the peace and quiet and the beauty of the surroundings. There are also outings to a brown bear reserve, the Valley of the Geysers, the Timonovskye hot springs, and other excursions. Without the fishing this is overseas adventure travel at its best.
